Press release: President of Togo visits BBOXX headquarters as solar roll-out gathers pace

BBOXX, a next generation utility, welcomed a delegation from the Government of Togo, led by H.E. President Faure Gnassingbé, at BBOXX’s London headquarters last week.
BBOXX has been operating in Togo since December 2017, after it forged an innovative partnership with the Government, which aims to provide greater energy access.
To date, BBOXX has improved the lives of 20,000 Togolese citizens. BBOXX aims to rollout 300,000 solar home systems across Togo by 2022.
During the visit, the BBOXX team explained to the President how it will focus on delivering services to customers beyond solar home systems in Togo, such as internet and gas products. These services will help address the needs of rural communities who cannot access these utilities, thereby overcoming a significant barrier to economic development.
Use of BBOXX products will also further the adoption of mobile payment solutions across the country, helping to improve the financial inclusion of rural communities.
BBOXX is currently running a pilot for internet access in Rwanda and plans to investigate how it can be deployed in other markets.

Mansoor Hamayun, Chief Executive Officer of BBOXX, said: “Our partnership with the Government of Togo is going from strength to strength – the progress we have made in less than a year is testament to that.
“We have big ambitions to grow our customer base in Togo, where the rural electrification rate is unacceptably low. By rolling out other utility services we will be able to tackle the pressing issue of energy poverty in the country, for the benefit of Togolese communities.
“We aim to be the trusted brand for energy and utility needs in Togo.”

BBOXX is a venture backed next generation utility, developing solutions to provide affordable, clean energy to off-grid communities in the developing world.
BBOXX is fully vertically integrated, controlling every part of its customer experience. With over 150,000 systems deployed so far; 500 staff across 6 offices in China, UK and countries in Africa including Kenya, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo and Togo, working with BBOXX to bring electricity to 20 million people by 2020.
