Cajamarca (Peru).- ACCIONA Microenergia Peru and the District Councils of Napo and Mazan (Maynas province, Loreto department) sign inter-institutional agreements to provide families in their communities with access to electricity services, within the project that extends the action of Luz en Casa to 350 additional households of the Napo basin (Peruvian Amazonia).
An important step towards the achievement of the goals of the “Electricity Service with Renewables for isolated communities of the Napo river in the Peruvian Amazonia-Luz en Casa Napo 2017” project has been taken by formalising the commitment of the authorities of the territories where that action is being executed. ACCIONA Microenergia Peru has signed with the District Councils of Napo and Mazan the corresponding Framework Agreements of Interinstitutional Collaboration, where the verbal agreements achieved between the parties in previous meetings have been drawn up.
Through signing these agreements, the mayors have recognised both the role of their councils in closing the gap of opportunities for the population, and the fact that the access to energy is a basic requirement for the Human Development. In the case of the Mazan district, two communities are going to be attended, Copalillo and Nuevo San Juan, where there are about 50 homes. In the Napo district, there is a prevision of attending to 300 homes in 13 communities. None of the fifteen communities to be attended is included in other electrification plans.
“Luz en Casa Napo 2017” is a continuation of the pilot project ended this year. It validated the technical and economic proposals of the new electricity delivery model, which was designed for Amazonian communities; now it can be affirmed that there is a viable solution to have access to energy in remote rural communities of Peru, such as those in the Amazonia. The technical model is based on installing Third Generation Solar Home Systems-3GSHS with prepayment, and management models that guarantee the sustainability of the intervention.
Besides, the development of a diesel-solar hybridization model, in at least one Napo community currently supplied with diesel generator, is important in the extension of the activity so as to overcome the current problem of shortage and high price of fuel, which makes the council to subsidize its bought. With this proposal, ACCIONA Microenergia looks for the reduction of the use of fossil fuels in the Peruvian Amazonia.
ACCIONA Microenergia Peru implements this project that is led by the ACCIONA Microenergia Foundation, in collaboration with the Technical University of Madrid’s Innovation and Technology for Development Centre, the ICAI Engineers for Development Foundation, and the Comillas Pontifical University of Madrid’s Institute for Research in Technology, and that counts on the co-funding from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation.
ACCIONA Microenergia and the Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) are included in the 2030 Agenda, a 15-year plan of action that favours the people, the planet and the prosperity. There are 17 SDG which are integrated and indivisible and that comprise the three dimensions of the Development: economic, social and environmental.
The rural electrification programmes of the ACCIONA Microenergia Foundation impact on those three dimensions, and directly on the SDG 7, Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
By participating in this symposium, the SDG17, Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development, is impacted too: organizations specialized in different topics and from different countries, shared experiences in renewable energy technologies and applications that contribute to the global development.

ACCIONA Microenergia Peru
It is a non-profit association that was created by the ACCIONA Microenergia foundation to facilitate access to electricity to isolated rural communities, which are not included in the national grid extension of Peru. It develops the ‘Luz en Casa’ programme in the Northern Mountains of Peru, in the department of Cajamarca, where it is an electricity public utility within the Peruvian regulation, and with a fee-for-service model that applies the official photovoltaic tariff. It is currently extending its activities in the Amazonia, in the Napo basin, with the aim of scaling up the technological and managerial sustainable model of the pilot project, implemented in 61 households of the Napo district, to 350 additional families of that district and the district of Mazan.
