Press release: Global LEAP Off-Grid Cold Chain Challenge | Nominations Close May 25

The Global LEAP Off-Grid Cold-Chain Challenge is a global competition to identify the most energy-efficient, sustainable, and affordable technologies that can meet the diverse cold storage requirements for fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products, meat, and fish in off-grid areas. The Challenge is open to organizations that have deployed – or plan to deploy – off-grid walk-in cold storage containers in the following priority countries: Burkina Faso, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. The Challenge aims to stimulate the commercial market and catalyse further design innovation for these technologies, which are essential to improving livelihoods for smallhold farmers and strengthening agricultural value chains.
The Off-Grid Cold Chain Challenge is divided into two stages, and each stage features a package of benefits for participants. Ten (10) Stage 1 Finalists will receive a cash prize of £10, 000 each and up to four (4) Stage 2 category Winners will receive innovation prizes of £37,500. Winners and Finalists will also be included in a global promotional campaign and have the opportunity to participate in invitation-only networking events.
