East Africa still far behind in modern energy consumption

The East African Community (EAC) region has been cited as still the part of the world with the lowest consumption levels of modern energy.

According to EAC deputy secretary-general in charge of productive and social sectors Christophe Bazivamo, the bloc’s entire population of at least 150 million consumes just at 130 Kwh of modern energy per head.

He attributed this under-consumption to what he called inadequate, unreliable, unaffordable, and unsustainable modern energy services across the region.
