Women are often considered the backbone of families but their access to economic independence, education and health and hindered by many factors, particularly in rural areas. One such factor hindering their freedom to grow is the energy sector.
The International Solar Alliance (ISA) inaugurated a Solar Academy at the École Polytechnique de Thiès (EPT) in Senegal as part of its flagship Solar Technology Application Resource Centre (STAR-C) initiative. The Solar Academy aims to provide certified, long-term training programs on solar energy for Senegalese citizens.
The solar training project is aimed at empowering Ghanaians, especially the youth, with a focus on vocational training students to venture into the greener energy sector. It also aims to empower Ghana’s solar workforce and provide students with technology for sustainable green energy.
Steered by the Ministry of Energy, the program focuses on public lighting and solar solutions. According to the Minister of Energy, Mila Aziable, the initiative aims to enhance the employability of young people and women by imparting technological skills and fostering innovation in LED lighting.
