Startup applications from 18 African countries for Energy Camp Africa

A total of 72 startups from 18 African countries have applied to participate in Startup|Energy’s next Energy Camp. This again shows the great dynamics and high innovation of energy startups in Africa.

Five startups will be selected from these applications, which will first receive intensive coaching from local business experts. At the end, there will be a live workshop in Nairobi with a final pitch for the Startup|Energy Award. The jury for the award consists of investors and potential startup-partners.

And after the Energy Camp? It continues!

  • As a Fellow of Startup|Energy, we will connect the startups with partners from the Startup|Energy community: Investors, Partner Companies, Accelerators.
  • All startups receive a free membership for one year with our partner Africa Solar Industry Association (AFSIA) and can take advantage of the benefits of this industry association.
  • If desired, startups will receive further coaching to further develop your business idea.
  • Additionally all startups can present their business to an international audience in a webinar hosted by AFSIA and Startup|Energy.

Why Startup|Energy?

Today, Africa’s decentralised energy market is dominated by non-African companies. Some of them have done outstanding pioneering work. With their exemplary commitment, they have also become motivators and role models for the younger generation of African entrepreneurs.

The number of African energy startups is growing steadily. Their advantage over international companies is often their proximity to the specific social and cultural requirements of the new energy products.

However, local startups in Africa also face specific challenges. One of the biggest is their lack of visibility for cooperation partners and investors.

The goal of Startup|Energy is to increase this visibility and to support African startups in developing their products through an accelerator programme.

The first Energy Camp took place in 2021 with a closing workshop in September in Kampala. The next Energy Camp is expected to take place in October 2022.
