Press release: Village Power Uganda welcomes Airtel’s Sales & Distribution Director, Mr Ali Balunywa, to leadership team

Village Power Uganda (VPU) is proud to announce that Mr Ali Balunywa has joined the management team as Managing Director. Ali’s arrival adds a strong sales focus and completes VPU’s all-Ugandan management team. Mr Balunywa’s strong sales background in fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) in Uganda positions VPU to further expand its reach within Uganda, critically, to last-mile customers in rural areas.
Village Power CEO, Thomas Huth, is excited by the strong local management talent and the strength that brings to expanding solar access in Uganda. “Solar, for Uganda, by Ugandans! With his extensive experience across different sectors in Uganda, Ali will provide great leadership to the business.”
Mr Balunywa sees extraordinary potential in solar and its key role in increasing access to electricity for the majority of Ugandans, especially those living in rural areas. He says, “solar is the next big thing! Solar has the potential to really improve the standard of living and to move the dial in the achievement of the Ugandan Government’s target of universal electrification by 2040. VPU will be further pushing into the last mile to make our significant contribution to the achievement of this ambitious goal”. Prior to joining Village Power Mr. Balunywa worked as Sales and Distribution Director at Airtel Uganda and held various leadership positions with British American Tobacco and East African Breweries.
