The goal of the project is to electrify an Indian village with renewable energy and guarantee a sustainable and reliable power supply. Around 240 million people in India still live without electricity or only have access to irregular power supply. However especially in rural areas, limited electricity access curtails social and economic development enormously.
In September 2016, dena and BOS AG went for an exploration to Uttar Pradesh in India and selected the village Sarvantara for the dena Renewable Energy Solutions Programme. The village, with approximately 100 households, is located in a rural area with insufficient infrastructure and no access to the existing grid. With the installation of the smart DC mini grid technology from BOS AG, basic electrification needs will be covered cheaply and the village’s water supply will be improved with solar pump systems.
With the renewable electricity produced by PV modules, each household will be able to power lights, fans and USB charging devices for instance for mobile phones. Thanks to the smart DC power meter, power supply can be adjusted efficiently. Each household plans for its needs and pays for its power consumption individually. The whole system is designed to deliver affordable, reliable and sustainable electricity for at least ten years. An inauguration ceremony is planned for the beginning of June in the village Sarvantara.
