Barefoot Power and Kenyan Women’s Micro Finance Bank (KWFT) are pleased to announce that after completion of a successful pilot conducted in 4 districts across Kenya during July – December 2015 the program will be progressively rolled out during 2016.
The program offers Barefoot Power’s Solar Home System Products which comes with household appliances such as digital TV, installation in user’s house and two years’ warranty. KWFT provides consumer financing of the systems with its innovative client loan facilities. The loan comes with up to 24 months’ repayment term as clients are provided with a range of Barefoot Power’s products to choose from.
At a joint announcement Mr Mwangi Githaiga (Managing Director of KWFT) and Mr Rick Hooper (Chief Executive Officer of Barefoot Power) advised that 100,000 systems will be supplied and installed during 2016 benefitting over 500,000 Kenyans. ‘Together, we shall enhance livelihoods by providing good quality, renewable home lighting, power to charge their phones and digital TV experience – a profound lifestyle improvement to families who are off-grid’.

The program will provide full time employment to over 1,000 staff in sales, installation and ongoing technical support of the systems in the field.
