Press release: 24/7 Power for Children’s Hospital in Malawi

Fortune CP (UK) has just commissioned a 55KW Solar hybrid solar project for a children’s hospital in Lilongwe Malawi. The hospital is run by Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation Malawi (Baylor-Malawi) an organization sponsored by USAID and Baylor College of Medicine, Texas, USA. This is a welcome development for the hospital as Malawi usually experiences extensive power black-outs (load shedding) of 8-12 hours a day. Power black-outs are the last thing this hospital wants considering it has an operating theatre. The hospital treats thousands of children and mothers in Lilongwe City.

The system, designed supplied and installed by our company is a hybrid consisting of 25KW solar panels, controllers and inverter-chargers; 240KWh Fortune CP battery bank (each cell is 2V 2500AH GEL); 30KVA diesel generator and the Escom electricity grid. This configuration ensures 24/7 power availability. Fortune CP has more than 14 years’ experience carrying out solar projects worldwide (including Malawi).”
