A total of 46 East African startups with products for the decentralized renewable energy market applied for Startup|Energy’s Energy Camp East Africa.
From the applications, these five startups were selected to participate in Energy Camp:
- Solar Pipo (Uganda): Making solar energy accessible to the dairy sector
- Inno-Neat (Kenya): Secondary use of lithium-ion batteries for solar and e-mobility applications
- Solar Freeze (Kenya): Solar cold storage for perishable products for small rural farmers
- Fin-e (Uganda): using fintech to improve business development of local solar companies in Africa.
- Zuhura Solutions (Kenya): The Halisi Trolley – a solar-powered food vending trolley
Each Energy Camp participant receives several months of online coaching from experienced entrepreneurs who know the local energy market inside out. The final event will be a face-to-face workshop in Kampala (Uganda) from 27-29 September. There the startups present their business ideas in front of other startups, investors as well as experienced entrepreneurs. The finale is the competition for the Startup|Energy Award, which is endowed with 5,000 euros.
Startup|Energy is an initiative of the Stiftung Solarenergie and the University of Freiburg to promote regional and international exchange between startups in the field of decentralized, renewable energy supply in D-A-CH and East Africa.
