ABOUT THE JOB

Agsol is the manufacturer of the world’s most efficient solar powered grain mill – the MicroMill. We are a rapidly growing team and we’re currently scaling up our manufacturing capabilities. As part of that scale-up, we are in the process of relocating our manufacturing from Nairobi, Kenya, to Ahmedabad, India. We are looking for a key team member to spearhead our manufacturing efforts in India, manage vendors, and be the foundation for building out our local office and an R&D workshop.

The ideal candidate has a wealth of knowledge of manufacturing technologies, materials, and the local manufacturing ecosystem in Gujarat. You can work autonomously, but also in tandem with the head office in Nairobi. Your collaborative attitude and interpersonal skills will help you thrive as an Engineering Manager. The role requires both hands-on engineering, and high-level strategic management. The role requires you to travel regularly from Ahmedabad to Nairobi to be aligned with the broader strategy of the company and to implement that strategy in country.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage product manufacturing and ensure timelines and budgets are met
• Work autonomously in coordination with the head office
• Supervise vendors and manage vendor relationships
• Establish a new country office and R&D workshop in Ahmedabad
• Contribute to the continual improvement of product design
• Diagnose issues, come up with robust solutions, document them, and communicate them to relevant (internal and/or external) partners
• Design and implement quality control processes on a product level and individual component level
• Implement and monitor technical performance metrics
• Perform CAD modelling using SolidEdge, Solidworks, Inventor, or similar
• Support logistics
• Share time between Ahmedabad, India, and the head office in Nairobi, Kenya with regular travels

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years of relevant experience
• Unquestionable moral integrity
• Hands-on experience with a wide variety of manufacturing technologies: sheet metal cutting and bending, aluminium pressure casting, surface treatment, plastic injection molding, PCB manufacturing
• In-depth knowledge of the Gujarat manufacturing ecosystem
• Rapid prototyping: hands-on experience with various workshop tooling: lathes, mills, 3D printers, drill presses, angle grinders, welding
• Ability to work as part of a global team
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• In-depth knowledge of MS Office suite

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience working with agro-processing machinery
• Experience with designing and/or manufacturing motors
• Experience with lean manufacturing practices
• Experience working with international companies
• Master’s degree
