d.light is a leading off-grid solar company, focused on the manufacture and distribution of high-quality solar lanterns, solar home systems and solar compatible appliances. Since inception d.light has positively impacted more than 100 million people with modern lighting. Refugees, internally displaced persons and host communities continue to be some of the hardest to reach. In both emergency and protracted situations, there are different means of enabling affected people to access household energy solutions.


Position Description

As the Business Development Manager for the humanitarian channel, you will be part of the d.light Global Partnerships & Strategy team, which focuses on identifying and managing product distribution partners. Your territory is vast and extremely dynamic. Your overarching goals will be to (1) create and strengthen relationships with institutions working in displacement settings, (2) identify and onboard new strategic partners that will procure and distribute d.light solar solutions, (3) co-develop projects and identify innovative financing models to support market-based approaches to access to energy in settlements.


Roles & Responsibilities

  • New Business Development/Sales – Identify, approach and close deals with organizations that are interested in, and have the capacity for, mass purchase and distribution of high-quality solar lanterns
  • Project Design – Develop joint proposals to test and roll out market-based-approaches to energy access in displacement settings
  • Tenders & Grants – Identify, apply for, and win calls related to energy access in displacement settings
  • Financing – Explore innovative models for reducing risk and increasing interest in market-based approaches for energy access
  • Relationship Management – Cultivate strong relationships with institutional and private partners



  • Achievement of revenue targets
  • Implementation of market-based-approaches to energy access in displacement settings
  • Successful management of procurement processes with international development organizations
  • Assistance to line manager with other business development needs


Required Skills & Experience

  • Fluency in English
  • 4+ years of relevant professional experience with humanitarian organizations, donors, and UN entities
  • Ambitious self-starter, highly self-motivated to reach targets or exceed expectations. Fully autonomous and comfortable working in unfamiliar business environments with little supervision
  • Excellent existing network with relevant stakeholders in humanitarian and development organizations, including international donors and UN organizations
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to build rapport effortlessly
  • Fully proficient in Microsoft Office package and Google suite
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 15% of the time
