Green People’s Energy Challenge Call

The GIZ programme Green People’s Energy (GBE) launches a new 1 Million Euro grant funding window for projects in sub-Saharan Africa targeting two specific energy access challenges: Increasing Off-Grid System Sustainability and Reducing CO2 Emissions via Energy Access. If selected, projects can receive up to 125,000 Euro.

Non-profit organisations as well as local for-profit organisations without commercial ties to industrialised countries are invited to submit their project idea linked to either of the two challenges. Only one application per challenge is possible. Applications from Ethiopia, Benin, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Mozambique, Namibia, Senegal, Uganda, and Zambia will be prioritized.

The Challenge Call is part of a variety of activities implemented by GBE with the aim of working towards SDG 7. It adds to the already operational GBE Small Projects Fund, which offers financial support to decentralised renewable energy projects led by local non-profit organisations.

Timeframe: 19 July – 31 August
