The Digital Hub Africa format consists of two modules. All events will be held online. On 30th September 2021, a Stakeholder Dialogue took place as a kick-off event, focusing on providing information and networking for startups and companies in the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion that are already cooperating with African countries, or want to do so in future. In this event, the view on existing African networks got sharpened and the requirements for a Digital Hub in the Technology Region Karlsruhe were discussed. The speaker, James Shikwati, Kenyan economist and founder of the Interregional Economic Network (IREN), highlighted the opportunities and challenges of African markets and discussed possible points of contact and future markets.
Under the title “Dialog or Coop? Choose what you need!”, two further events will take place on November 9th and 10th (both 4 – 6 p.m. (CET); 6-8 p.m. (EAT)), which will specifically focus on networking and cooperations between startups and companies from East African countries and the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion. Each of these events is dedicated to one of the two focal points “Energy and Mobility” and “Digitalization”. As an open format, the events give participants the opportunity to talk to startups and companies and to explore project ideas and cooperation options. First, participants get to know each other at a Meet&Greet in breakout sessions. Afterwards, partners of an already existing cooperation will report on their experiences and be available to the participants for a question and answer round. This will be followed by a speed-dating phase in which participants can get to know each other better in private – the focus here is on an in-depth exchange of ideas and sustainable networking. Finally, there will be an open exchange with the aim of identifying the needs of the participants for a possible cooperation.
