Only the solar products and manufacturers making to the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) will now be eligible for open access and net-metering projects—in addition to government-backed projects—installed in the country.
Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani is going big on green energy: His conglomerate, Reliance Industries, announced Thursday that it would allocate a whopping 6 trillion rupees (approximately $80.6 billion) to renewable power projects in the western Indian state of Gujarat, where it hopes to help generate a million new jobs.
In 2020, 74% of the value of the energy project loans (US$4,435 million) went to renewables (solar and wind) and 26% to coal. Solar PV accounted for 81% of renewable energy deals and 57% of all deals.
As India makes a strong push to ensure efficient electrification of its villages, the solar PV technology is the way forward. The micro-grid technology is especially emerging as a tailor-made solution for the rural areas that are often characterized by remote or scattered dwellings where grid connections prove financially and physically imprudent.
