On a recent trip to our project site in Kenya, the Upya team was invited to join the Givewatts sales agents to experience their routine and sales strategy. Sales agents are typically freelance operatives with intimate knowledge of local communities, cultures, and norms that can leverage their local ties to sell life-changing products, such as solar home systems, in exchange for a salary or commission.
In doing so, not only do they improve their networking and data-gathering abilities but allow for the permeation of new technologies into bottom-of-pyramid communities, helping households move up the energy ladder and reduce their dependency on kerosene.
